Cooking shifts are every Monday and Thursday. Volunteers meet at 5:00 PM in the kitchen of Williamsburg Presbyterian Church, which is on Richmond Road right across the street from Monroe Hall. The entrance we use is the main back door that faces the church parking lot. The kitchen is located down the first hallway on your right.
When cooking, please wear appropriate clothing and minimal accessories: closed-toed shoes, long pants, and a hat (or you will be given a hairnet). Please also secure any loose sleeves and tie back long hair, and leave the bling at home…flat rings are okay, but nothing too fancy that might get in the way or damaged!
Cooking shifts involve a lot of teamwork and creativity, as volunteers use donated food to prepare tasty, balanced meals for nearly 100 individuals each week. These meals are prepared on Mondays and Thursdays, and delivered to different low-income neighborhoods in Williamsburg on Tuesdays and Fridays, respectively. No gourmet cooking experience is necessary– just a willingness to learn, have fun, and respect the safety rules of the kitchen!
**INTERESTED IN A GROUP SHIFT FOR YOUR ORGANIZATION? CKWM currently provides other student clubs and groups group reservations for cooking shifts (not delivery or recovery due to the fewer number of people needed to work these shifts). All you have to do is fill out the form via the link below.
