EDUCATION

The Campus Kitchen at William & Mary is about more than just providing meals. An important component of our mission is building community with those we serve. We provide educational programs for the children in two of the public housing neighborhoods that receive our meals. Our programs consist of "Fun at Five" and field trips. As always, we rely heavily on student volunteers to run successful programs, so please read below to find out how to get involved!

FUN AT FIVE

Fun at Five is our after-school program for the children that takes place outside their own neighborhoods. William & Mary students spend time with the kids through sports, arts & crafts, and other activities! The kids range in age from pre-K to 8th grade. Fun at Five takes place on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5:00-6:15. On Wednesdays, we go to Dunning neighborhood and on Thursdays, we go to New Hope neighborhood. Transportation is provided.

Fun at Five volunteers should meet outside the Wesley House, which is at 526 Jamestown Rd across from PBK/Jamestown South. It is between Cary St and Indian Springs Rd right next to the Williamsburg United Methodist Church. We try to leave at 5:05 sharp so please be on time!

Fun at Five Volunteer Policies:

  • We do not accept walk-ins. All volunteers must sign-up.
  • Volunteers cannot drive themselves to Fun at Five.
  • We do not accept group shifts for Fun at Five.
  • Fun at Five is restricted to William & Mary students only.
  • If you are volunteering for court-ordered community service hours, you must contact us in advance and receive approval before volunteering.

If you would like to volunteer for Fun at Five, contact us for more info.

FIELD TRIPS

We take the children on three field trips each semester. Chaperones for field trips consist of Campus Kitchen exec board members and consistent Fun at Five volunteers. Some of our past field trips have been to the Virginia Aviation Museum, Maymont Nature Park, the Williamsburg fire station, a W&M baseball game, and Virginia Commonwealth University.

We are always open to field trip ideas, so if you have any suggestions let us know!
